Minimal Intervention Dentistry
We embrace the philosophy of minimally invasive (microdentistry) dentistry.
"Microdentistry is the evidence-based discipline dealing with oral hard and soft tissue-saving procedures, with the primary goal of improving the quality of life through lifelong optimal oral health."
-as defined by World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry
We use some of the best technology in the world to achieve this:
Early accurate diagnosis of dental caries with Diagnodent, followed by treatment with Healozone, Air abrasion or Laser. These are no injection, no drill techniques used in LASER dentistry.
 |
Fissure sealant that has not worked: there is decay beneath the surface. If the decay is not too deep this tooth could be treated with Ozone therapy alone. |
 |
Cross section of a tooth fissure with decay and a diamond drill used in the conventional method. |
 |
If the tooth decay is more extensive the area needs to be opened up with air abrasion or a LASER. HealOzone can now be applied. With either method you can be assured of minimal discomfort. Air abrasion uses a gentle stream of air and powder to clean the tooth surface without damaging healthy areas. |
 |
We then use a tooth coloured filling or sealant to protect and strengthen your tooth. This method is long lasting and resistant to decay. |
Diagnodent
This is a hand held laser that can detect tooth decay in the early stages when it is not visible to the eye or an xray. De-mineralised tooth substances and bacteria fluoresce when they are exposed to a specific light wavelength.
- No scratching probe: simple, fast and painless examination, an extremely reliable diagnostic aid.
- Reproducible and quantifiable results permit checking, stabilization and documentation of caries development
- Early diagnosis can mean easy no drill painless treatment with HealOzone
- Or minimal intervention with Airabrasion or Laser -all tooth-preserving treatments
Comparision of conventional Probe with Diagnodent:
A conventional dentists metal probe can cause damage to delicate enamel. Caries research shows disease causing bacteria can actually be transmitted from one tooth fissure to another.
