In the past Caries treatment meant surgically removing diseased tooth tissue with a drill. But unfortunately this also involved removal of healthy tooth substance .
International research has shown that in up to 99% of patients treated with HealOzone, the decay process(caries) stopped and reversed.
It was found that the carious tooth structure repaired without drilling and the treated teeth had substantially remineralized and become more resistant to caries
How does Ozone therapy work?
- Ozone gas is lethal to micro organisms (bacteria, fungi and viruses)
- Ozone will penetrate through enamel and dentine affected by caries
- 99% of the bacteria are killed or deactivated.
- Acid production by these bacteria ceases and the caries process is stopped.
- Natural healing of tooth structure can now take place with minerals contained in tissue fluids and saliva
- Concentrated minerals are also applied in the form of the neutral Reductant fluid enriched with tooth hardening minerals.
- Minerals can also be added using a take home kit.
- The Remineralization process occurs in 4 - 12 weeks
- The tooth is Sealed to prevent reintroduction of bacteria
The indications:
 Pit and Fissure caries (most common type of tooth decay) - TOP picture.- Root and cervical caries (increasing indication in older adults) - LOWER picture
- White spot or smooth surface caries
- Treatment of deep caries in combination with traditional methods( may prevent need for root canal therapy)
- Root sensitivity is usually cured instantly
Treatment steps
 1. Cleaning
Thorough cleaning of the tooth surface with a mild abrasive powder
2. Measurement
The tooth is measured to see if early caries is present using KaVo DIAGNOdent. If there is caries present the length of ozone application is determined depending on the severity of the findings.
3. Treatment
A controlled amount of ozone is applied with a soft silicon cup over the tooth with KaVo HealOzone unit. The treatment time varies between 10 and 40 seconds.
4. Reductant Fluid
This specially formulated fluid is now applied to the tooth surface .This Promotes the immediate remineralization of the tooth,neutralises acids and also eliminates any ozone residues present
5. A Home Care Kit
This may be recommended for use over 4weeks between Healozone treatments
The KaVo HealOzone patient kit:
 Toothpaste 75 ml, sodium fluoride (tooth care twice a day)
- Mouth rinse 120 ml, sodium fluoride (rinse 10 s, 3 times a day)
- Mouth spray 25 ml, sodium fluoride (allow spray to act for 10 s, 3 times a day)
